Macclesfield & District Lions Club has served the local community for over 40 years and, on average, annually fundraise and donate over £18,000 to good causes and carry out welfare work such as distributing 200 Christmas food parcels and providing trips and parties for senior citizens.
This work can only be carried out thanks to an enthusiastic membership who also have fun and enjoyment through social gatherings.
Lions – the local branches of the International Association of Lions Clubs (or Lions Clubs International) – meet the needs of local communities and the world every day because they share a core belief – to serve their community.
In 2014-2015 over 60 grants for a total of more than £20,000 were made; the largest being to BBC Children in Need and Middlewood Riding for the Disabled (through their annual Swimarathon at Macclesfield Leisure Centre each November), CRE8, East Cheshire Hospice, Lions Clubs International Foundation Disaster Relief Appeal Fund, Mary Sunley Canal Boat Charity, Lions Youth Brass, 2 schools in Bollington to help purchase defibrillators and a substantial donation to Prestbury Park Playground. £1,000 was donated to the Bosley Disaster Appeal.
They organise and attend local events like the annual Bollington BikeFest, Brass Band Concert and their annual Golf Day, as well as Astle Park, Rushton Spencer, Prestbury Rose Queen, etc. and fundraise through BBQs, their ‘Find the Key’ game and book and cake stalls. The meet monthly to decide where the funds are donated across the borough.
